How is compliance achieved?

Machinery Directive (MD)

Power operated doors and shutters have to fulfill the requirements of the MD as well as the CPD.

The Machinery Directive covers the relevant parts of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD)  and the Electro-Magnetic Compatability Directive (EMCD).

The MD requires the completion of a risk analysis and the creation of a Technical File to provide evidence that all risks have been adequately covered.

Construction Products Directive (CPD)

All doors and shutters have to comply with the requirements in the Construction Products Directive.

For
* water penetration
* resistance to wind load
* thermal resistance
* air permeability

a test or calculation have to be done by an external, notified body.

For fire and/or smoke control doors and shutters  there will be additional requirements for testing at an approved fire test laboratory and factory production control has to be assessed and continuously surveyed by an external, notified body.
